Marine (hire-and-drive vessel) regulations

The Marine (Hire-and-Drive Vessel) Regulations cover all types of water-craft including dinghies, jet skis, canoes sailing boats that may be hired by members of the public for pleasure use only.

Hire and Drive operators are required to obtain a permit for the operation of such vessels.

The craft must meet approved standards, carry the required safety equipment and pass annual inspections.

A person shall not use or operate a vessel as hire-and-drive vessel in Northern Territory waters unless a permit it in force in respect of the vessel.

For a Hire and Drive vessel to be used commercially it must have an appropriate Certificate of Survey.
